A gift for YOU & a Sneak Peek!

We have a little internal contest contest going on within our Scrap n' Art DT girls to win some cool stuff from Making Memories.  The rules of the contest were to Create a LO using absolutely NO premade embellishments.  That means no brads, no ribbon, no staples, no glitter unless you make it yourself!  For the digi designers, we had use our own designs.  Tools could be used to create the embellishments but the only thing on the LO itself must be hand made or digitally created.

SO...with those rules, I set out to create some stuff and the best part is...you get in on this too.  I am making it available for you to download for FREE!  All the doodles were hand drawn and there's a few extra things included in the kit that I just threw in too.

Here's the page that I made with my kit for the challenge.

PSA - Acid Free Warning & Scrap n' Art Calls!

My friend Jacki discovered a product by Imagination Project that is NOT acid free. She found this out by going back through one of her albums and noticing that they had changed color and become sort of yellowish.  She tested them with her American Crafts ph Tester pen and SURE enough...it was NOT acid free.  They are the Imagination Project coasters that she has on this layout in her gallery.  I also had some of these in my stash and tested mine and got the same results.  Luckily I hadn't used them on anything.  Imagination Project has gone out of business.  I find it quite odd that they still have a website up that is fully functioning with DT page, store, products but no mention of them going out of business anywhere.  She contacted the company and someone eventually returned her email about a week later but never addressed the issue of the product not being acid free.  What do they care really, they are no longer in business!

So maybe we should just use these products for exactly as they are named...as coasters under our drinks!

Moving on...

The calls for the November/December issue of Scrap n' Art are up.  These are some FUN calls and I urge you to submit, submit, submit!

San Diego was a BLAST!

My friend Jacki and I were supposed to go to San Diego this weekend to meet up with a friend of ours.  Unfortunately our friend couldn't make it (we missed you Mel :( ) but I couldn't get my money back for the hotel so we decided to just hang out in SD for the weekend.  We started out bright and early Friday morning, we didn't want to waste any time after all we had scrap stores to visit along the way! We decided to stop at Ever After in Carlsbad.  We had been there once before and liked it but this time we weren't all that impressed with the place...way overpriced but we did manage to pick up a FEW scrappy things.

Next stop was a brand new store called PAPER TALES!!! If you are ever in the San Diego area I HIGHLY suggest stopping into this adorably cute scrap store! Obviously everything in the store is brand spankin' NEW so it was fun to go through and look at everything. I did some serious damage to the checkbook in this store but I was totally ok with that! We chatted with Helle Greer (whom I had met at CHA back in February), she is so sweet!  The place is decorated so cute and has a little crop area in the back and their prices are EXCELLENT!

By this time it was about 2:00 but we couldn't check into the hotel until 3:00 so we decided to go to Seaport Village for lunch.  We sat by the water and just relaxed...no kids to bug us and no husbands.

We went into a crazy hat store and goofed around...
Jackihat
(that is LOVELY Jacki!)

Cherehat

We checked into the Hyatt and they gave us a room on the 25th floor overlooking Coronado Island and bridge...I told Jacki we were gonna be scrappin' in heaven and we were.  Look at this view!

Viewday

Jackimehotelroom

Jacki immediately started rearranging the hotel room so that we could both utilize the only desk in the room for scrapping.  Then we unpacked our stuff we had bought, opened a bottle of wine and started scrappin!

Next thing we know it's 7:00PM...we should probably start thinking about somewhere to eat for dinner.  We looked through the guide and decided to go to Dick's Last Resort.  Both of us were kinda skeptical about this place but it was within walking distance of the hotel and not too expensive.  We walk into this place and it literally looks like a bomb hit it.  There's toilet paper and caution tape hanging from the ceiling, people are yelling and throwing stuff at each other, there was stuff all over the floor...apparently this is the norm for this place.  So we found a table and just sat down.

Jackimerestaurant

(see I told you it was crazy looking)

A couple minutes later our waiter comes over and puts down half eaten stuff in front of us and says "here you go!" LOL  Then he said..."Nah, just kidding!".  The menu was up on the wall and saw they had something called Dolly Partons.  I had an inkling of what this might be but I decided to take my chances and ask the waiter.  He looked down at my boobs and said "They're a pair of chicken breasts almost as big as those!".  Um ok!

Merestaurant

(notice the bras hanging across the ceiling behind me)

There was a table of military dudes sitting next to us and they were wadding and wetting napkins and throwing them at various people so then that turned into a napkin throwing fight amongst the patrons.  There were people that had male genitalia hats made out of paper on their heads...interesting.  So we ask our waiter to take a picture of Jacki and I.  He says SURE and then turns the camera on himself and then pulls his pants out and took a picture of his nether regions!!!!  I'm guessing this guy didn't plan on me having a blog to post his picture for all the world to see...just guessin'!  I think our jaws dropped to the floor on that one.  Jacki immediately deleted that one from the camera before her husband saw it! But here's Mr. Waiter's self portrait.

WaiterOur waiter made us hats that had crude things written on them here's Jacki's hat..it said "Easier to get into than Junior College"  I won't share a picture of mine...

Jackihat2and when it was time for the check the waiter shoved it down my shirt and then did the same thing to Jacki.  This place is NOT for the easily offended that's for sure!  It was fun but we decided it really wasn't the atmosphere that we wanted to hang out in all night.

We walked up the street to Hennessey's, an Irish pub and plopped ourselves down at the bar.   I think we were only gonna stay there for a little while but a little while turned into a lotta while!  There was a girl sitting next to us and started chatting with us.  Turns out she's from Ohio (strange huh Mel?)  and she was there on business but was having drinks with an ex boyfriend who flew out from Phoenix just to see her.  We even took our picture with her see...here's Lindsey

Jackimelindsey....her and Jacki are now texting buddies on the phone! LOL

The next day we woke up and drug our hungover butts down to the breakfast buffet at the hotel! WOWEE I've never seen so much food in my life and we ate LOTS!  We even had our own Omelet Nazi....I swear that woman HATED her job.  She would roll her eyes and throw the omelets down on the plate, and would only make one omelet at a time even though she had like 4 pans.  One morning Jacki was getting something for both of us and Jacki said "First I want an omelet with bacon and cheese and then"....the lady interrupted Jacki and said "Let's just deal with the omelet first ok?".  SHEESH!

We went back up to the room to chill for a while (we watched a movie...about some girl who surfs Blue Crush I think) and then decided to go hang out by the pool for a while.  The pool was crowded but we managed to find a little corner all to ourselves...grabbed a couple beers and relaxed.  The music they had playing was so annoying we both had to leave. I would have much rather them not even play music.

So we both agreed to drive over to Coronado Island and walk around the Del.  Talk about CROWDED...we had to park a ways away and hoof it!   The place was packed, there were 2 weddings going on and they had a band playing at one of the outdoor places.  We waited in line to get lunch but there was no where to sit.  Jacki made friends with some "lovely gentlemen" from St. Louis named Paul and Todd and they invited us to share their table.  We sat and chatted with them and ate, compared stories about California vs. St. Louis...I think we figured out California won! LOL    Then we walked around the shops at the Del for a while and decided to head back to the hotel.

Saturday night we thought we would just take it easy and go to Seaport Village for dinner and then go to the Top of the Hyatt for drinks after.  The Top of the Hyatt is on the 40th floor...our ears popped going up that high!  The view was amazing of course.

Then it was back to our room to just chill and hang out and put comfy pants on....we had this idea that we should both do scrapbook layouts about the comfy pants and the photo taking began.  I won't even post those here, I think you'll have to wait for the layouts ;)  Anyway,  in the middle of all this we hear this KABOOM and look out the window and there's fireworks coming from a boat! COOL didn't know that was gonna happen!

The next day we checked out but only after we hit the breakfast buffet once again and stuffed our faces!  Over breakfast we decided that we should stop by Pink Pineapple Scrapbooks cuz quite obviously we needed more scrap supplies :P  Then a stop at Joann's and Michaels before actually ending up at home!!!

It was 3 days of shopping, drinking, eating, socializing and just having a grand time!  We vowed to do this at least once a year, maybe twice!
